Day 2 of the 2026 WRC Safari Rally Kenya delivered classic African chaos on March 14, with Toyota’s Takamoto Katsuta seizing the lead after top rivals crashed out amid relentless rains around Naivasha.
Katsuta’s cautious approach on the treacherous Sleeping Warrior stage—described as “super muddy and tricky” with no spares available—paid off handsomely, propelling him over a minute ahead of Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville and Adrien Fourmaux as crews hit service.
Championship contenders Elfyn Evans, Oliver Solberg, and Sébastien Ogier all retired from incidents, opening the door for the Japanese driver’s first WRC lead.
