Gor Mahia suffered their second league defeat of the season as they went down 1-0 to Bandari in an FKF Premier League clash at Mbaraki Grounds in Mombasa on Saturday afternoon.
The results means that Bandari are now seven points behind league leaders Gor Mahia, and they could maintain the second spot incase Tusker, who have a game in hand, drops points against AFC Leopards.
Fidel Origa’s strike in the 40th minute was enough for the dockers who held on to win their 13th game of the 2023-2024 season.
Bandari made no changes to the team, as the same men who defeated Shabana 2-0 in their last outing were on duty at the same venue.
Jonathan McKinstry made two changes to the team that faced Posta Rangers with Patrick Sibomana and Ernest Wendo returning to the starting line-up.
After the match Bandari tactician John Baraza said:“We have played against the defending champions and league leaders, the best team in Kenya right now and collecting the maximum points is important since we have cut short the point difference”.
On his part, Gor Mahia tactician Johnathan McKinstry said,“It’s frustrating we have come all the way, Bandari scored through their first shot on target and every chance we got it was flagged offside, our performance today is not what we had planned we moved the ball well but we were not quick at attacking.”
