Morocco right-back Achraf Hakimi has been crowned the 2025 African Footballer of the Year at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards.

The PSG right back missed out on the top spot in 2023 and 2024 but won the award this year after edging out Egypt captain Mohamed Salah and Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen. He helped out Paris St-Germain to win the French title and a maiden Champions League trophy. Meanwhile, Morocco captain Ghizlane Chebbak won the women’s prize after seeing off Nigeria captain Rasheedat Ajibade and Atlas Lionesses teammate Sanaa Mssoudy.

Hakimi, who is currently sidelined due to injury, took to his Instagram page to thank everyone. “It is truly a proud moment for me to win this prestigious award. This trophy is not just for me but for all strong men and women who dream of becoming footballers in Africa. And for those who have always believed in me since I was a child, that one day I would become a professional football player. I want to thank them all.” He said.
