Arsenal defeated Everton 1-0 on Sunday evening to continue their impressive campaign.

Despite Eddie Nketiah only receiving the ball after a severe deflection off Everton striker Beto earlier in the play, the first-half goal by Martinelli was controversially disallowed because VAR had determined that he was just slightly offside.

Substitute Leandro Trossard scored the only goal of the game after an impressive play by Bukayo Saka from a corner kick. Arsenal climbed up to fourth place with the win, but Everton remained winless in the Premier League to start the season.

Speaking after dropping Aaron Ramsdale as goalkeeper, Arteta said it was just a rotation. “It’s the same rationale as to why Fabio (Vieira) and Gabby [Jesus] played—I haven’t had a single question about why Gabriel hasn’t been starting. He has won more trophies than anybody else in that dressing room, including me.” I want Aaron to react the same as Gabriel Jesus. The same as Kai Havertz and Takehiro Tomiyasu. Exactly the same. We play with 11 players, not 10 plus one.” He said.
