Harambee Stars head coach Benjamin McCarthy has admitted the chances of qualifying for the World Cup are small.
The national team is gearing up for two qualifiers against Gambia and Seychelles. Kenya is in Group F together with Ivory Coast, Gabon and Burundi. They currently hold the fourth place, and if they are to qualify for the World Cup directly, they have to finish top of the group. The runners-up can qualify through the confederations playoffs. With only four games to go, the team finds itself in a very difficult situation.
Speaking before the games, McCarthy admitted the chances are slim. “It is what it is, and we want to make use of the four remaining matches, and I want to bring a lot of local players so they can get the international experience so we can be ready for preparations for the next World Cup. Chances now are slim to none because we have four games; we can get 12 points to take us to 18 points, but it depends on what Ivory Coast and Burundi will get because they are ahead of us.” He said.
