The Dutch 1500 and 10,000-meter specialist, Sifan Hassan, bagged gold in the 2023 TCS London Marathon on her debut held on Sunday.

Against all odds, Hassan had to thump a star-studded lineup of elite athletes to bag the maiden title (2:18:34). In the initial miles of the race, Hassan suffered an injury scare that made the leading pack generate a 400-meter gap. She however was able to shake her injury problems to produce an emphatic finish.

Ethiopia’s Alemu Megertu and Kenya’s Olympic champion settled for a second and third place respectively.

The 2019 and 2020 London Marathon champion Brigid Kosgei suffered an injury blow after picking up a nasty hamstring injury.
