Britain’s Emma Raducanu was knocked out by Canada’s Bianca Andreescu in the Miami Open 2023.
The 20-year-old British number one was defeated by Andreescu, a 22-year-old who also won the US Open as a juvenile, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. Despite being plagued by injuries, both players delivered a competitive match where the first two sets were won by a single break. Before Andreescu took the final four games, the match was close early on.
Speaking after beating Emma, Andreescu said she had to be at her best. “You never know what you’re going to expect, I just wanted to play my best with what I had and I think I did that,” said Andreescu, who plays Greek seventh seed Maria Sakkari next. “Emma played amazing and is an incredible player.” “I have a lot of respect for her, and her results show how good she is,” said Andreescu.
