Chelsea defeated Newcastle to advance to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup through penalties.

Callum Wilson gave Newcastle an early lead after a defensive mix-up by Thiago Silva and Badiashille. Raheem Sterling was denied on the other, as Chelsea kept on pushing for a leveller. Chelsea suffered a setback when Enzo Fernandez was forced off with an injury.Newcastle were leading 1-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Chelsea kept on putting pressure on the Newcastle goal as they searched for a leveller. Gallagher’s effort sailed wide off the post, while Palmer’s effort sailed wide. In the final minute, Newcastle defender Trippier made a miscontrol, which Mudyrk capitalised on to level things during extra time to take the game to penalties.

Chelsea scored all their penalty kicks through Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku, Conor Gallagher, and Mudyrk. Newcastle scored through Guimares and Wilson as the Trippier penalty sailed wide and the Ritchie penalty was saved by Petrovic as Chelsea advanced to the semi-finals.
