Chelsea revealed yesterday that Brazilian forward Thiago Silva will be sidelined for six weeks after an injury setback.

The Brazilian defender Thiago Silva was forced off in the 20th minute of Chelsea’s away defeat to Spurs on Sunday after Spurs striker Harry Kane fell on his knee. Wesley Fofana replaced him, but he was unable to prevent Chelsea from another defeat.

Chelsea yesterday released a statement following the scan that Thiago Silva underwent and confirming the injury setback. “Having sustained a knee injury during the first half of Sunday’s match against Tottenham Hotspur, Thiago underwent further assessment and a scan on his return to the training centre on Monday.”Scan results from those assessments have confirmed damage to Thiago’s knee ligaments and he will now work closely with the club’s medical department during his rehabilitation to return to action as soon as possible.” Read the statement.

The veteran defender will miss important games against Leeds and Borussia Dortmund in the coming weeks.
