Atletico Madrid head coach has questioned the decision to review Julian Alvarez’s penalty kick.

Real Madrid knocked out their city rivals Atletico Madrid through post-match penalty kicks. Conor Gallagher’s goal was enough to send the game into extra time and eventually the penalty kicks. Julian Alvarez’s penalty kick for Madrid was wiped off after a VAR review determined that he had touched the ball twice before scoring. Alvarez was not allowed to retake the penalty kick. Rudiger scored the winning penalty kick, which knocked out Atletico.

Diego Simeone was far from happy with the decision to review Alvarez’s penalty kick by saying he did not touch the ball twice. “To anyone here: raise your hand if you saw that Julián touched the ball twice in the penalty. Come on! And? Ready? Nobody raises theirs. Another question”. I’ve never seen VAR call to review a penalty in a shootout.”. He said.

Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois said Atletico just want victimhood. “We all know UEFA sees it clearly. I’m so tired of this victimhood with referees, of always crying about things like this.”. He said.
