Kenyan runner Dorcus Ewoi claimed victory in the women’s 1500m at the 2026 New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston on January 24, clocking a world-leading personal best of 4:01.22.
This performance kicked off her indoor season strongly, missing Kenya’s national record of 4:01.17—set by Beatrice Chepkoech in 2019—by just 0.05 seconds and ranking her as the second-fastest Kenyan woman indoors ever.
Team Kenya praised the feat on X the next day: “Second fastest ever! Dorcus Ewoi storms to victory… with a world lead and PB of 4:01.22. Just a whisker shy of the Kenyan record… but close enough to shake history.”
Building on her 2025 silver at the World Championships in Tokyo behind Faith Kipyegon, Ewoi’s win boosts Kenya’s middle-distance prowess.
