Chelsea defeated league leaders Liverpool 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night.
Liverpool were again looking to stop their losing streak after losing back-to-back games against Crystal Palace and Galatasaray.Chelsea lost their last Premier League game against Brighton but defeated Benfica in the Champions League.Chelsea were short of defenders, as they had only two fit centre backs for the game. Moises Caicedo opened the scoring with a wonderful thunderous effort from outside of the box early on in Chelsea’s first attack. Liverpool looked to respond, but Alexander Isak’s header from Mo Salah’s cross went over the bar. Alejandro Garnacho came close to opening his Chelsea account, but his effort went just wide.
In the second half, Liverpool introduced Florian Wirtz, who has been struggling in the Premier League so far. Cody Gakpo levelled the scoring for Liverpool after a lovely touch by Isak in the box. Chelsea went to attack again, and Caicedo took a lovely shot again, but the Liverpool goalkeeper pushed it over the bar. Giorgi Mamardashvili made two double saves to deny Gittens after a curling effort and Estevao after another curling effort. Enzo Fernandez saw his header hit the bar as Chelsea dominated the late stages of the game. Estevao then won the game for Chelsea after Cucurella’s cross met the Brazilian teenager, who slotted his first goal in Chelsea colours.
Liverpool dropped to 2nd place with 15 points, while Chelsea are in 6th place with 11 points.
