Former Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti has been named as the new Italian national team head coach.

Spalletti, 64,takes over from former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini who resigned on 13th August as Italian national team head coach.

Luciano Spalletti left Napoli last season after guiding them to their first Serie A title after going 33years without lifting the Serie A trophy.

Luciano Spalletti has previously worked with Roma , Inter Milan and Zenit St Petersburg and now he resumes the duties of the Italian national team starting from 1st September.

“The national team needed a great coach and I’m very happy that he accepted. His enthusiasm and his expertise will be fundamental for the challenges that await Italy in the coming months.” Italian football Federation president Gabriele Gravina said.
