Clubs around the world are set to benefit financially during the 2026 FIFA World Cup after reports revealed that FIFA will pay more than €9,000 per day for every player released to national teams. The payments are part of FIFA’s Club Benefits Programme, designed to reward clubs for contributing players to international tournaments.
The 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, will feature an expanded 48-team format for the first time in history. With more matches and a longer tournament schedule, clubs with large numbers of international players could receive significant compensation.
Europe’s biggest clubs, including teams from the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, and Serie A, are expected to benefit the most. Clubs whose players progress deep into the tournament may earn millions in total payouts before the competition ends.
The initiative also highlights FIFA’s growing effort to strengthen relationships with clubs, especially as concerns continue over player workload, injuries, and congested football calendars.
