The Harambee Starlets could earn a record KSh258.8 million if they win the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) significantly increased the tournament’s prize money.
CAF has set the winners’ prize at KSh258.8 million, while the runners-up will receive KSh97.1 million. The team that finishes third will pocket KSh64.7 million.
All 16 teams taking part in the tournament are guaranteed KSh19.4 million in participation fees, ensuring every nation receives financial compensation regardless of how far they progress. This means Kenya’s Harambee Starlets will earn at least KSh19.4 million even if they are eliminated during the group stage.
The increased prize fund reflects CAF’s continued efforts to strengthen women’s football across Africa by rewarding participating teams with higher financial incentives. Kenya will be aiming to make a strong impression at the continental tournament, with the opportunity to compete for both sporting success and the record prize money on offer.
