Kenyan international Eric Ouma has sat out seven crucial matches for Harambee Stars, including four 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, friendlies, and FIFA Series games, due to a nagging injury.
Prior to the setback, the versatile defender shone at Polish champions Raków Częstochowa, featuring in 18 outings with a goal and three assists to his name. The club, fresh off their 2022/23 Ekstraklasa triumph, narrowly missed back-to-back titles last season, finishing runner-up to Lech Poznań, and now hunts domestic silverware once more.
With transfer rumors swirling, Ouma remains pragmatic about his future. “I’ll likely stay in Poland next season—maybe 90-100% sure—but it hinges on the club. If they release me, I won’t fight it; if they want me, I’ll commit,” he shared. The injury has forced a career reboot, Ouma admits. “Everything’s unpredictable now. I’m starting from scratch, taking it day by day, listening to my body, and adapting my game.”
Mentally, the sidelines have tested him: “You wonder why others are out there and not you. But football’s about timing—handle your moment right, and it’ll arrive.”
Yet, silver linings emerge. The ex-Gor Mahia star has gained life lessons off the pitch. “I’ve discovered there’s more to life than soccer—new connections, fresh perspectives on how the world ticks. It’s taught me balance.”
Ouma jetted back to Raków on Saturday, April 4, ready to rebuild.
