Boston Maratho champion Hellen Obiri has admitted to being under pressure ahead of her title defense scheduled for Monday, April 21, 2025.
Obiri won on her debut at the 2023 Boston Marathon and successfully defended her title at the 2024 edition.
Now, she is eyeing a rare hat-trick and she is working around the clock to ensure she achieves the goal.
Hellen Obiri jetted back into the country a few days ago and revealed that she has seriously started training and she will continue to work extra hard until the final day.
The Olympic marathon bronze medallist is wary of the tough competition that awaits her, revealing that everyone will be plotting to stop her from winning her third successive title.
She has identified world marathon champion Amane Beriso, who finished second at the 2023 Boston Marathon, as a potential threat, further revealing that it is difficult to rule out veteran Edna Kiplagat, Irine Cheptai and the upcoming stars.
“I’m under pressure because if you look at the entries of women, they are very strong, we have strong Kenyans and Ethiopians and we have strong Americans.
Everybody will be looking at Hellen Obiri, at how she will compete in her third marathon in Boston so I’m trying to make it happen.
That pressure, helps me in training. In Kenya, you have to be in top shape to be included in the Kenyan team and if I’m selected, I will do my best.” Read Also Football Kenya Federation Opens mid-season Transfer Window
