James Maddison scored twice to give Tottenham a win over Manchester City that has now lost five games in a row for the first time since 2006.

Pedro Porro scored the third before Brennan Johnson scored the fourth in the final minutes of the evening that saw City’s 52-game unbeaten run at the Etihad Stadium coming to an end.

It was City’s worst home defeat since a 5-1 defeat at Tottenham, north London rivals Arsenal in 2003.

It was also the first time they had lost three consecutive Premier League games under Pep Guardiola, who had signed a two-year contract extension 48 hours ago.

Tottenham travelled north without their first two centre-backs,five teenagers on the bench and lost their last game 2-1 at home to Ipswich two weeks ago. But Ange Postecoglou’s side highlighted their problems in a way City could not.

Manchester City remains second but Liverpool will extend their lead at the top to eight points if they win against Southampton.Tottenham has moved up to sixth place, four points behind City.
