Brighton reached the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League after a 1-0 win over AEK Athens.

Joao Pedro scored the winner from the penalty spot yesterday. Pedro was brought down by Damian Szymanski, but the referee ignored the call. However, VAR decided it was a penalty, and Pedro Comfortaby stepped up to score his fifth goal of the tournament.

Speaking after the game, Brighton manager Roberto De zerbi was happy with the qualification. “We showed a different mentality tonight, showcasing our soul and resilience,” De Zerbi said. It was a historic day for Brighton, for the club, and for our fans. It is a massive evening for the club and everyone involved—the players and the fans—a result we will always remember.” He said.
