Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been sacked by AS Roma. Roma have announced that they have sacked Jose Mourinho after nearly three years in the role as the club’s head coach.

Roma currently are in ninth position in Serie A following Sunday’s defeat to AC Milan and were also eliminated from the Coppa Italia by fierce rivals Lazio last week.

Mourinho was banned from watching the defeat to Milan unfold from the touchline due to disciplinary reasons and he was booed by some Roma supporters as he watched the match from the stands.

The statement from Roma read,”We would like to thank José on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the clubs.

We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club.We wish José and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.”

Former Inter Milan coach Antonio Conte is the early favourite to replace Mourinho at the Stadion Olimpico, while it is not clear whether Mourinho will target another role in club management after his spell in Italy.
