Lionel Messi

PSG and Argentina forward Lionel Messi won the FIFA men’s player of the year award for 2022 on Monday, February 27, after an incredible year.

Lionel Messi led Argentina to their third world cup win ever and his first ever, and he was able to accomplish the only trophy that was missing in his career. Messi defeated his fellow PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema to win this award for the 7th time in his career.

Speaking after winning the award Lionel Messi said, “It’s amazing.” It’s been a tremendous year, and it’s an honor for me to be here and win this award. “Without my teammates, I wouldn’t be here,” he said at the ceremony. “I achieved the dream I had been hoping for for so long. “Very few people can achieve that, and I have been lucky to do so.” He said.

In his voting, Lionel Messi did not vote for himself, as he voted for Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Karim Benzema.
