Manchester City defeated Real Madrid 2-1 in the UEFA Champions League played at the Bernabeu stadium.
Real Madrid went into the game with heavy pressure on the head coach, Xabi Alonso, who had lost his last La Liga game against Celta Vigo. Madrid started on the front foot with Vinicius Jr sailing the ball wide. Rodrygo then ended his goalless streak of over 30 games as he finished off clinically after Bellingham passed on the counter. Bellingham had the chance to double the score for the home side, but his effort went off. Manchester City then levelled through O’Reilly, who bounced on Courtois’ save from Gvardiol’s header. Minutes later City were awarded a penalty kick after Rudiger was judged to have pulled Haaland. The Norwegian international stood strong to slot the ball home and give City the lead.
In the second half, Madrid increased the pressure as they looked for a leveller, with Jude Bellingham having the first chance of the second half, but his chip shot went above the bar. Vinicius Jr then saw his effort go off the bar from Gurler’s corner kick. Courtois was then forced into a fine save to deny Doku, who troubled the whole Madrid defence. Substitute Endrick saw his effort hit the crossbar in the final minutes as Man City managed to hold on to the win.
