Manchester City hammered Liverpool 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League.
Manager Pep Guardiola was taking charge of his 1000th game as a manager. City Looked the threatening side early on and were awarded a penalty kick when the Liverpool goalkeeper brought down Jeremy Doku. Erling Haaland stepped up to take the penalty kick but was saved by Mamardashvili. City took the lead a few minutes later when Erling Haaland rose high to meet Nunes’s cross into the back of the net. Liverpool thought they had equalised when Virgil Van Djik headed home from a corner kick, but it was ruled out for offside. Man City then doubled their lead when Nico Gonzalez’s strike deflected off Van Djik.
In the second half, Liverpool improved early on, and Donnarumma stood strong to deny Szoboszlai’s long-range effort. Substitute Cody Gakpo then saw his effort sail high off the post. Jeremy Doku then wrapped up the scoring for Man City when he curled in a wonderful effort from the outside to seal the win for Man City.
City jumped to second with 22 points, while Liverpool dropped to 8th place with 18 points going into the international break.
