Manchester City started the defence of the Premier League with a convincing 3-0 victory against Burnley at Turf Moor.

Last season, Golden Boot winner Erling Haaland scored twice to help the champions beat Burnley, with Rodri scoring the third goal in the second half.

Kevin De Bruyne was, however, injured and had to be replaced in the first half by Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea. Burnley defender Zaroury was sent off late in the game for a poor tackle on Kyle Walker.

Pep Guardiola said De Bruyne will be assessed to determine the extent of his injury. Unfortunately, he is injured again. He said to me that it’s a problem in the same position as the Champions League. He recovered well, but now we’ve lost him for a time. We have to reflect and talk to the doctors and the physios. He has to be relaxed, recover, and come back. He was feeling really good.” He said
