Manchester United strengthened their top four chances after a 3-1 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League.
Michael Carrick became the fourth manager in Premier League history to win his first 6 Premier League games. Amad Diallo had the first chance of the game when he put Matheus Cunha’s delivery just inches wide. Martinez was forced into an excellent save to deny Diallo a spectacular header. Mbeumo has had a half chance, but his effort sailed into the side net.
In the second half, United broke the deadlock through Casemiro, who met Bruno Fernandes’ set piece and beat Martinez in goal. Onana had the chance for Villa, but Lammens pushed it off. Aston Villa wasted no time in getting level through Ross Barkley, who found himself unmarked and found the bottom corner. Fernandes then provided Cunha, and the Brazilian put the united back in front again. Substitute Benjamin Sesko then sealed the win with a heavily deflected effort.
Michael Carrick’s side are now in third place with 54 points after 30 games.
