Manchester United’s new owners, INEOS, have continued their cost-cutting efforts by terminating a multi-million-pound annual commitment to Sir Alex Ferguson, the club’s most successful manager in history.
Ferguson left the club in 2013 and was replaced by former West Ham manager David Moyes, who is the most successful manager in the club’s history. INEOS has explored all cost-cutting measures, prompting it to focus on the club’s dedication to Ferguson, 82, who continues to attend games in the directors’ box, both at home and away. However, in a face-to-face meeting at Old Trafford, INEOS founder and CEO Sir Jim Ratcliffe informed Ferguson that the club is looking to cut costs and is no longer willing to support his wages.
This comes at a time where United have endured a terrible start to the Premier League, as they are in the second page of the table at 14th place and are currently on a winless run.
