Arsenal defeated Crystal Palace 1-0 on Monday night, despite a red card.

The Mikel Arteta side has now won their two opening games of the new season. The game ended goalless in the first half, despite Arsenal having chances.

In the second half, Eddie Nketiah was fouled in the penalty box, and Arsenal were awarded the penalty kick. Martin Odegaard stepped up to take the penalty kick, and he comfortably scored to give the Gunners the lead.

Late in the game, Tomiyasu was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for a foul on Jordan Ayew. Crystal Palace thought they were awarded a penalty kick when Eze was fouled in the box, but VAR could not save Crystal Palace as Arsenal went on to win the game.

Speaking after the game, Mikel Arteta said he was not happy with Tomiyasu’s red card. “These are the new standards,” Arteta said. “I don’t know exactly how long… [On being told, it was 23 seconds]. No, it wasn’t. I think it was eight seconds. We might have to play with a stopwatch. It’s OK; we won the game; I’m happy.” He concluded.
