FKF side Mathare United have appointed Collins Omondi as the interim head coach until the end of the season.

With just eight games remaining, the Slumboys Mathare are in 16th place in the standings with 22 points, four points outside of safety. He will take over from Samuel Koko, who will resume his role as goalkeeper coach.

Mathare United released a statement confirming Omondi’s appointment. “Omondi helped lay the foundation for our promotion to the Kenyan Premier League 25 years ago as he was part of the squad that won the 1998 Moi Golden Cup. He returns to try and preserve our three-decade stay in the top flight with the club hovering at the wrong end of the league table.” Read the statement.

This Wednesday at Kasarani Stadium, he will face off against the league’s top team, Gor Mahia.
