Mathare United has finally appointed a new technical director and a permanent head coach after nearly three months of operating under an interim head coach.

This comes after Mathare United stare at the relegation berth just three points above the relegation zone. Wins, and draws have been hard to come by for the Slum Boys- registering five games losing streak.

Samuel Koko acted as interim manager since February 2023 after the former head coach Boniface Omondi’s departure. Koko was the goal-keeping coach before the promotion to caretaker manager. At first, things worked out well as he would get results from AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia.

However, things have turned tough for the gaffer and the management has had to bring in the experience of Stanely Okumbi as the technical director and Collins Omondi as the head coach.

Koko will now focus on his goalkeeping coach’s role fully.

We had to make changes because, as you can see, we are not in a good position at the table. We believe these appointments will help us avoid relegation,” CEO Jacktone Obure told Mozzart Sport.
