Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said yesterday that the team is ready for the final title push ahead of the Southampton clash.

The Gunners allowed two-goal leads to slip in back-to-back games and are now only four points ahead of defending champions Manchester City, who have a game in hand. Next week’s game between the two title contenders at the Etihad Stadium might be crucial.

As he gets his players ready to play Southampton on Friday, Arteta said they had responded well following their recent setbacks. “I’m very confident,” he said on Thursday. “Twists and turns are part of anything you do, especially in football.” Whatever the aim or target is, it is not going to follow a linear progression. You have to know that and prepare for that, and the way the team reacted this week is incredibly positive, and we want to see that tomorrow night.” He said.
