Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Salim Mvurya, has reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to hosting the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) next year, spotlighting collaborative efforts with the Parliamentary Committee on Sports and the National Treasury.
Adopting a unified “whole-of-government” strategy, the Ministry is prioritizing the KSh 3.9 billion hosting fee alongside critical infrastructure upgrades. “I assure every Kenyan and our global allies, like the Confederation of African Football (CAF), that we’re tackling our financial duties and facility needs head-on,” Mvurya declared.
Mvurya highlighted the steady momentum in Kenya’s AFCON buildup, underscoring the nation’s capacity to stage an elite-level event. “Our sports facilities are advancing rapidly—that’s precisely why we welcomed CAF inspectors for an on-site review.
We’re fully backing our preparations,” he noted with optimism.This proactive stance signals Kenya’s readiness to shine on the continental stage, boosting national pride and athletic legacy.
