Arsenal’s unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign was ended after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Newcastle.

In a first half full of chaos, Kai Havertz was fortunate not to be sent off after a foul on Longstaff. Bruno Guimares was also lucky to remain on the pitch after he hit Jorginho on the head.

In the second half, Newcastle eventually got the breakthrough when Aaron Gordon scored the rebound after a JoeLinton header. The goal was subject to a lengthy VAR review, and eventually it was given. Newcastle managed to hold off the win at St. James Park.

Speaking after full time, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was unhappy with the VAR. “It’s a disgrace,” Arteta told Sky Sports. “It’s embarrassing. That’s how I feel, and that’s how everybody feels in that [dressing] room. You cannot imagine the amount of messages we’ve got saying this cannot continue. It’s embarrassing. I’m sorry, embarrassing.” He said.
