Tottenham Hotspur was defeated 6-1 by Newcastle on Sunday night, inflicting one of the most humiliating losses in Premier League history.

Newcastle United took a 3-0 lead in the first ten minutes with goals from Joelinton and a brace from Jacob Murphy in quick succession, guaranteeing Spurs an embarrassing afternoon. Alexander Isak added two goals just before halftime to bring the total to 5-0.

Harry Kane scored for Tottenham after the break, cutting the deficit to one, before Callum Wilson scored Newcastle’s sixth goal. This time, though, Hugo Lloris had already been replaced by Ben Foster at the break.

Speaking after the game, Spurs captain Hugo Lloris said they needed to apologize to the fans. “It’s very embarrassing,” Lloris said. “We should apologize to the fans.” We didn’t show a good face, and we could not match the performance of the Newcastle players. We were late in all aspects of the game, and we completely missed the first part of the game. “The second half is a different story, but it’s really painful.” He concluded.
