Nigeria advanced to the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations after beating Cameroon 2-0 in the round of 16.

Nine minutes before the half, Lookman scored the first goal for the Super Eagles after Victor Osimhen forced a mistake from Oumar Gonzalez and set him up to shoot past custodian Fabrice Ondoa. Cameroon offered little in the first half to trouble the Nigerian defence, as they went into halftime leading 1-0.

In the second half, Ola Aina had a glorious chance to double the lead, but Nouhou Tolo brilliantly blocked the effort. Cameroon then introduced Vincent Aboubakar, but he barely made any impact in the game. Nigeria then booked a place in the quarterfinals after Lookman scored his second goal of the game to send Cameroon home.

Cameroon head coach Rigobert Song said he will make a decision on his future. “I am a fighter. I like difficult decisions,” Song said. I have a contract; I will have time to now take a break and take stock before making any decision.” He said.
