Bandari FC head coach Charles Okere has called for an urgent solution to the uncertainty surrounding the start of the 2026/27 FKF Premier League season.
The coach made the appeal after Bandari defeated Kenya Police FC 2-0 in a pre-season friendly at the Police Sacco Grounds on Sunday. The match was arranged after the league’s planned resumption was postponed.
Okere said the repeated changes to the league calendar were frustrating clubs, players and technical teams that had invested significant time and resources in preparations for the new campaign.
Bandari had travelled to Nairobi on Friday ahead of their scheduled opening fixture against AFC Leopards. However, the team received news while on the journey that the league would not begin as planned on Saturday, September 19.
The postponement followed a Murang’a High Court order suspending the league’s commencement while a promotion and relegation dispute involving Kariobangi Sharks and Mombasa United is addressed. As a result, clubs were left without a confirmed date for the start of the season.
“It is really saddening. We received the communication while we were on our way to Nairobi. It is not good to keep players in camp and maintain their fitness when there is so much uncertainty,” Okere said.
The experienced tactician added that clubs had already committed substantial resources to coaches, players, accommodation and other pre-season activities.
“We have used resources on coaches and the entire team. This situation has really affected us,” he added.
Okere urged the parties involved in the dispute to prioritise dialogue and work towards a quick resolution that would allow Kenyan football to resume normally.
“This matter needs an urgent resolution. If necessary, dialogue should be placed at the centre so that a solution can be found and we can get our football back,” he said.
The latest postponement is the second interruption to the league’s proposed opening date. The 2026/27 campaign was initially scheduled to begin on August 22 before the kick-off was moved to September 19. The competition now remains without a confirmed resumption date, leaving Bandari and other clubs waiting for clarity.
