Kylian Mbappé continued his quest for the 2026 Ballon d’Or campaign ahead of its voting.
The Real Madrid striker had a remarkable year for club and country. He scored a total of 42 goals in 44 matches during the 2025/26 club season, finishing as LaLiga’s top scorer with 25 goals and the Champions League’s leading scorer with 15. He was on fire during the World Cup campaign, where he netted 10 goals for France despite the semi-final elimination. He became the tournament’s all-time leading scorer with 22 goals.
However, Real Madrid ended the campaign without a major trophy unlike his other competitors. His major competitors include Harry Kane and Lamine Yamal. Both Mbappe and Yamal have been speaking on why each deserves the award this year.
Mbappe said he plans to dedicate his award to his African roots: “I’ve never lost the connection with my roots and my origins. Every time I go to Africa, I feel the love from the people.” “I’ve always felt very loved on the African continent. I hope I can leave with the Ballon d’Or and, in one way or another, dedicate it to them too.” He said.
