Harambee Stars and Kakamega Homeboyz goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has been suspended for an extended period of time.

Patrick Matasi made headlines on Thursday morning after a video of him negotiating a deal to fix a match made rounds on social media. Although Matasi has not yet responded to the claims, some Kenyans were not surprised, as they accused him of always making silly errors when playing for the national team. Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga expressed his frustrations on X after the video and maintained he is surprised by the incident.

Football Kenya Federation has now decided to act on the matter and has now decided to suspend Matasi for an extended period as they await further investigations. “FKF, in collaboration with FIFA, CAF, and other relevant authorities, has initiated an official investigation into the matter. The Federation remains committed to upholding integrity in football and ensuring a fair and transparent process for all involved parties,”read the statement.

Matasi was not called up in the national team for the recent World Cup qualifiers loss to Gabon.
