Chelsea have named England defender Reece James as the club captain.
Cesar Azpilicueta, who has captained Chelsea for a long time since Gary Cahill left the club, served as the leader. The Spaniard left to join Atletico Madrid for free in the summer, hence leaving the vacancy.
Yesterday, Chelsea announced that Reece James will be the new captain next season. Ben Chilwell will serve as his vice captain, as the decision has been made and approved by Mauricio Pochettino.
Speaking after being named the club captain, Reece James said he was proud to lead the club. “I’m so happy to take on the role and responsibility,’ said James. ‘I know I’ve got big shoes to fill because we have had huge captains here in the past, but I am excited. I have been at Chelsea pretty much my whole life. I started here when I was six, and to come through the academy is tough. But to go on and become captain, it’s a great feeling for me and my family.” He said.
