Chelsea defender Reece James has reacted to rumors that his teammate Mason Mount will move to Manchester United.
After the conclusion of the Premier League, the England international joined Mount and Ben Chilwell at the Formula 1 Barcelona Grand Prix this weekend. The two-time Chelsea player of the season is entering the final year of his current contract at Stamford Bridge, and United is now in the lead in the race to sign him this summer after talks over a contract extension have so far fallen through.
Speaking to Sky Sports regarding the rumors, James said, “Of course, if he [Mount] goes, everyone will be sad to see him go.” He said. Ben Chillwell was also asked about the same story. “It’s none of my business personally, but I’d love him to stay. He’s my best mate, so personally I’d love him to stay but it’s none of my business.”He said. Mason Mount himself, when asked about the stories, laughed off the question and said he was not focused on the rumors being written about him.
Chelsea are expected to make a last push to sign the midfielder in the summer after Mauricio Pochettino’s request.
