Kenyan athlete marathon sensation Ruth Cheng’etich successfully defended her Nagoya Women’s marathon title by clocking 2:18:08 at the World Athletics Platinum Label Road Race on Sunday morning.

In 2022, Chepng’etich won the title after running the second-fastest time in the race- she ran to the tape at 2:17:18. By winning the race on Sunday, that meant she had surmounted an illustrious list of her competitors- Japan’s duo of Ayuko Suzuki and Honami Maeda who came in second and third respectively, posting times of 2:21:52 and 2:22:32.

She was so dominant throughout the race to the point she had to run solo since her rivals couldn’t keep up with her.

“I am happy, I defended my title,” Chepngetich said on the event live stream. “The race was good. It was not easy for me to run alone but I am happy, and I am proud of today’s success.”
