“Age is just a number,” This phrase came to life during the just concluded World Athletics Championships when the nineteen-year-old steeplechase sensation- Faith Cherotich, clinched a bronze medal.
The reigning World Junior 3000 Steeplechase champion, was not fizzled by the Championships. Despite her slim and “frail” physique, Cherotich defied all odds to grab a Championship medal.
This was the last individual track event of the spectacle, and Kenya had high hopes of making a podium sweep, however, this was not the case since the winner Winfred Yavi, spoiled Kenya’s party.
Cherotich, a form four student at Kaliyet Secondary School in Kericho County etched herself in the history books by becoming the first teenager to secure a podium finish in the 3000-meter Steeplechase at the World Championships.
With the experience under her belt, Cherotich will be a force to reckon with in the subsequent Championships.
