The ATP/WTA Indian Wells Masters event organizers have confirmed that the world number one Novak Djokovic will not participate in the event due to his unvaccinated status on Covid-19.
Currently, no foreigner is allowed to land in the US if he/she is not vaccinated. Djokovic also missed last year’s US Open for the same reason.
His spot will now be filled by Nikoloz Basilashvili. If Novak’s petition to enter the US with a special permit goes to fruition, then he might have a chance of playing.
“The USTA and US Open are hopeful that Novak is successful in his petition to enter the country, and that the fans will be able to see him back in action at Indian Wells and Miami.” The US Open tweeted.
