Barcelona have reached an agreement with Manchester City to sign Spanish midfielder Rodri, bringing an end to weeks of negotiations over the 30-year-old midfielder. Reports indicate that the transfer is worth approximately £65 million (€75 million).
Rodri had been strongly linked with a return to Spain throughout the summer, with Barcelona emerging as his preferred destination. The Catalan club initially submitted a lower offer before increasing their proposal as negotiations with City progressed.
The move would represent a major addition to Barcelona’s midfield. Rodri has established himself as one of the world’s leading defensive midfielders since joining Manchester City from Atlético Madrid in 2019.
During his time at City, he played a crucial role in multiple Premier League title successes and City’s historic 2022/23 treble. He also scored the winning goal in the 2023 Champions League final against Inter Milan.
Rodri’s arrival would provide Barcelona with experience, defensive protection, ball retention and control in midfield. The transfer also marks a significant change for Manchester City, who must now prepare for life without one of their most influential players.
With the agreement reportedly reached, the remaining steps involve completing the formalities before Rodri can officially become a Barcelona player.
