Chelsea woes continued as they were beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa on Saturday evening.

Enzo Fernandez opened the scoring for Enzo Maresca’s side after a brilliant run by Pedro Neto on the left wing. Enzo had another chance, but his curling effort sailed off the post. Watkins saw his effort blocked well by Cucurella as they kept pressure on the Blues goal. Cole Palmer saw his deflected effort wrong-foot Emi Martinez but sailed off the post. Chelsea led at halftime.

However, Aston Villa brought on Marcus Rashford in the second half and wasted no time as he set up Marco Asensio for the leveller. Cole Palmer had the chance on the other side, but his effort was saved by Konza. Marco Asensio went on to score the winner after a brilliant play by Marcus Rashford. Chelsea have now dropped to sixth place with 43 points.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca said they were not clinical enough: “I don’t think we deserved to lose the game, to be honest, but in this league, you have to be clinical. The difference most of the time is inside the box. Unfortunately, at 1-0 up, we had some chances that we didn’t score, and then the same at 1-1. In the end, anything can happen, and unfortunately, we lost the game.” He said.
