Bayern Munich took a commanding lead over Bayer Leverkusen in their Champions League tie.

Vincent Kompany’s side set one foot in the quarterfinals after a dominating display against their Bundesliga rivals at Allianz Arena. Harry Kane opened the scoring early on to give them the upper hand after meeting Olise’s cross. Manuel Neuer denied the visitors the leveller after saving Frimpong’s effort. Musiala went on to hit the crossbar after meeting Kimmich’s cross.

In the second half, Musiala then doubled the lead after a mistake by goalkeeper Matej Kovar, who let Kimmich’s cross slip through his goal. Leverkusen went a man down after Mukiele was dismissed for a challenge on Coman. Tabsoba then dragged Harry Kane on the floor during a corner kick, and the England striker stood to score the resulting penalty. The return leg will be played next week at Leverkusen.

Speaking after the win, Harry Kane said they wanted to send a message to everyone: “This is the Champions League; this is the biggest game of all. We’re playing against a team that has had an unbelievable couple of seasons. If we don’t carry it on, then it doesn’t mean anything. We’re here to send a message not just to everyone but to ourselves.” He said.
