Manchester United advanced to the Europa League next round after knocking out Real Sociedad.
Real Sociedad opened the scoring after Delight brought down Oyarzabal in the penalty box. Oyarzabal stood and gave the visitors an early lead. Bruno Fernandes levelled the scoring five minutes later from the penalty spot after Zubeldia had fouled Rasmus Hojlund. Hojlund continued to struggle in front of goal as his effort sailed off the post going into the halftime break.
In the second half, Dorgu was fouled in the box, and United was awarded a second penalty kick, which Bruno Fernandes scored brilliantly. Things got worse for Sociedad after Aramburu was sent off for bringing down Dorgu when he was clear on goal. Bruno Fernandes then sealed his hat trick after thumping an effort into the far corner. Diogo Dalot then added a fourth goal after meeting Hojlund’s cutback to seal the win.
Ruben Amorim was full of praise for Fernandes after full time: “When we need it, Bruno Fernandes is ALWAYS there”.He’s a perfect captain for our team, and we need to help him to win titles because he deserves a lot”. He said.
