Harambee Stars suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat to Gabon in the qualifiers played at Nyayo Stadium.

Former Arsenal striker Aubameyang opened the scoring early on in the fourth minute after lashing a strike past Ian Otieno. A few minutes later, Michael Olunga had the ball in the net, but the linesman raised his flag for offside. The Harambee Stars grew into the game under a noisy stadium as Olunga once again saw his effort hit the crossbar and go wide. Teddy Akumu also saw his effort pushed away.

In the second half, Gabon were awarded a penalty spot after a handball in the penalty area. Aubameyang stepped up to send Ian Otieno the wrong way and double the visitors lead. Homeside made numerous changes in their effort to score, and it was paid just past the hour mark when Michael Olunga pulled one back. The home side could not find the leveller as they fell to a defeat in the first game in Kenya in four years. Kenya now falls to nine points behind the leaders with four matches left to go.
