Former Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez has accused Joan Laporta of blocking Messi’s return.
Xavi served as Barcelona’s head coach for two seasons before being dismissed for the current coach, Hansi Flick. Xavi guided Barcelona to a La Liga title in the midst of Messi’s departure from the club. Laporta insisted that Messi returning to the club would have put the club in a financial crisis.
The former Spain midfielder has accused Laporta of blocking Messi’s return to the club. “Leo Messi is never returning to Barcelona simply because Laporta doesn’t want that. It’s not because of La Liga or Jorge Messi asking for money; that’s all a lie. It’s Laporta who is telling his camp that the club can’t afford him.” He said.
Xavi’s words come at such a strong time when the club is preparing for the elections to determine the next president and the front runners are Victor Font and Joan Laporta.
