Arsenal were beaten 2-0 by Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League.

The Mikel Arteta side suffered a major blow in their title race after a 2-0 home defeat to the Unai Emery side. In the first half, Emi Martinez produced amazing saves to deny Kai Havertz, who had two chances. He then produced another incredible save to deny Leandro Trossard from five yards out with a stretched leg. On the other hand, Ollie Watkins was unlucky as his effort hit the crossbar after Gabriel’s mistake.

In the second half, Aston Villa controlled the majority of the game, and Tielemans was unlucky as his curling effort hit the frames of the bar. Villa eventually got the breakthrough as Leon Bailey met Pau Torres cross into the empty net in the 83rd minute. A few minutes late, Ollie Watkins scored the winning goal as he lobbed past rushing David Raya to seal the three points for Aston Villa.

Arsenal have now dropped to second place in the standings, and Manchester City have leapfrogged them. They will next face off against Bayern Munich in the return leg of the Champions League quarterfinals in Munich, Germany.
