Athletics fanatics should strap themselves as this week promises to serve huge athletics events. Here are the events that are set to feature high-profile athletes from all walks of life.
KIP KEINO CLASSIC
The Gold Level Continental tour is slated to be held on April 20, 2024, at Nyayo Stadium. The fifth edition is set to host Olympic 200m silver medalist Kenneth Bednarek of the USA, 2016 Olympics javelin champion Thomas Rohler of Germany, Olympics hammer throw champion Wojciech Nowicki, and 2022 world hammer throw champion Pavel Fajdeck.
Local talents include; Commonwealth Games 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala, World 800m champion Mary Moraa, and World 800m silver medalist Emmanuel Wanyonyi, who will also be vying for the silverware.
TCS LONDON MARATHON
One of six of the largest marathons in the world is set to be held on April 21, 2024. Both defending champions are not registered in this edition. The men’s defending champion is Kelvin Kiptum- who tragically passed on in a road accident. Sifan Hassan- the Women’s defending champion will not be participating.
This serves as a great opportunity for the participants. They include; the 2023 TCS London Marathon runners-up Geffrey Kamworor, Leul Gebresilase, Daniel Mateiko, Marc Scott, and Abel Sikowo.
Xiamen Diamond League
This will kick off the 2024 Wanda Diamond League season on April 20, 2024. The Diamond League competition features a total of 16 disciplines, with points accumulated throughout the season determining the athletes who advance to the final event, competing for more prize money and Diamond League titles.
